A Custom Gold Ring for Marianna: The Story Behind the Design

Marianna is one of our loyal wholesale clients and a talented fashion designer specializing in professional uniforms for hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of crafting unique accessories for her collections, such as earrings, lapel pins, and cufflinks made of brass or silver, tailored to complement her elegant uniforms.
This time, Marianna approached us with a personal request:
she wanted a custom-made 14k gold ring for her pinky finger. The design was to feature her initial, “M,” adorned with sparkling white stones around it. She showed us these two photographs:
Initially, we designed the ring using advanced 3D design technology. This approach allowed Marianna to see the exact ring she envisioned in photorealistic detail, giving her confidence in the final look of her custom piece.
The 3D design process also proved invaluable for us, as it enabled precise calculations of the 14k gold weight based(4.5gr) on her finger size(US 4 1/2). Additionally, it allowed us to determine the exact number (39 stones)and weight of the stones required(0.90ct). This process helped us give an accurate price estimate and create a design that fit her budget and needs perfectly.
Initially, we considered using natural diamonds for this exquisite piece. However, as we calculated the cost of crafting the custom design with natural diamonds, it became evident that it exceeded the budget she had set for this meaningful gift to herself.
Knowing how much Marianna wanted this ring, we were determined to find a solution. Recently, we’ve been hearing more about ethical and lab-grown diamonds in the jewelry market. So, we decided to recalculate the cost using lab-grown diamonds.
The result? A stunning design that stayed true to Marianna’s vision while bringing the cost down by approximately -35%. It was the perfect solution, combining affordability with elegance, and allowed Marianna to gift herself a truly special piece of jewelry.
