Discovered in 1930 at Chrysolakkos, Malia, Crete, it dates back to the Middle Bronze Age (1800 – 1600BC). This meticulously crafted piece depicts two bees transporting honey to their honeycomb, showcasing intricate detail and mastery in granulation and filigree techniques. Known as “melissa” in Greek, the honeybee holds cultural significance, symbolizing mutual support and fertility. As the most famous piece of Minoan jewelry, the original pendant is exhibited at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Crete.
