14k solid gold Greek Key (Meander) earrings. Our artisans craft this ring from solid gold and shape the inner side with a hollow finish. The meander motif takes its name from the Meander River, known for its winding path and mentioned by Homer in the Iliad.
People also know the motif as the Greek key or Greek fret. Ancient Greeks regarded the meander as one of their most important symbols, often linking it to infinity and the eternal flow of life. Many also connect the design to the Cretan labyrinth,
since the meander represents a labyrinth in linear form. Its twisting pattern symbolizes friendship and love, while some interpretations compare it to the serpent, a symbol of guardianship and healing.
This symbolism may explain why ancient warriors used the design on armor, including the shield of Philip II of Macedon.
